Doyle's Holiday Camp at Kingswood

Jack and Jemima Doyle bought the Kingswood Hotel on the eastern outskirts of Burntisland in 1947. They sold the hotel around 1952, but kept Kingswood Lodge and the land between the hotel and the cemetery. It was on this land that they built Doyle's Holiday Camp, a village of chalets which still hold fond memories for the visitors who rented them. Sadly Jack's health suffered as a result of his war service, and he died in 1961 at the age of 46. Jemima carried on the business until 1964. Subsequent owners renamed the camp Linwell Chalets. It eventually closed and was demolished. A new housing development, Linwell Court, now occupies the site.

Jack and Jemima's daughter, Theresa McDougall, has sent us copies of some rare old photographs of Doyle's Holiday Camp - please see below.
